Work and respite hours

Extended work hours at the Pitt Street Station site to support construction industry during COVID-19

Standard work hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm and Saturday, 8am to 1pm.

The NSW Government has allowed construction sites to work extended hours across weekends and public holidays throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The extended work hours enable the construction industry to practice appropriate social distancing with fewer workers on site on any given day by allowing work to be spread across more days in the week. This also allows for jobs to be retained during this difficult time. These temporary changes were implemented at the Pitt Street Station site on Saturday 27 February 2021 and will continue to be in place until 31 March 2022 or on the advice of NSW Government changes. For more information, please refer to the Department of Planning, Industry & Environment’s website.

CPB Contractors will continue to implement extended working hours at the Pitt Street Station site from 7am to 6pm on Saturday and 7am to 6pm on Sunday. During the extended hours there will be no high noise activities such as rock breaking, rock hammering, sheet piling, pile driving or similar activities taking place. This temporary change to work hours allows construction activities to occur Monday to Sunday, 7am to 6pm.

Community consultation survey

Our standard construction hours are 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. Some of this work, such as jackhammering, can be noisy.

We’ve asked local residents and businesses for feedback on two proposed work schedules during standard construction hours Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. The two options have differing respite periods when high noise impact works will be paused for respite during day work shifts. Lower noise producing work activities will continue for the duration of the work shift. Details of the two respite options can be found here.

The community consultation period has now closed. Based on the feedback received we have implemented new day-time respite hours on the North and South sites from Monday 1 March 2021. Details of the day time respite hours can be found here.

The community has been notified through letterbox notifications and emails to the subscribed stakeholder distribution list ahead of any changes to the daytime respite hours. If you wish to receive these updates, please email pittstreetmetro@transport.nsw.gov.au

Out of hours work

Due to high daytime traffic volumes and the need to ensure pedestrian safety, some station construction work will need to be completed outside standard construction work hours. Community notifications containing further details of work outside of standard construction hours will be delivered to properties ahead of the work along with email updates sent to the subscribed stakeholder distribution list.
